Before any writing happens, your PDFs and documents are parsed, chunked, and indexed into a hybrid retrieval system that combines BM25 keyword search with semantic vector embeddings. When a section is drafted, Serche first retrieves the most relevant passages for that part of the paper, and the model writes only from those passages — not from its general memory.

Every claim must be supported by a source chunk, and the draft is grounded in [S1]-style citation placeholders tied to the exact passage a sentence was drawn from. After generation, automated checks verify that citations resolve, that claims trace to evidence, and that thirteen consistency rules pass. If the retrieval step finds no supporting passage, Serche does not invent a placeholder fact — it surfaces the gap, and you decide whether to add a source. The mechanism is a closed loop: write from evidence, verify against evidence, and never let the model freewheel.
